How SafeOrScamCheck Works

The score is a warning-signal score, not a probability that something is fraudulent. We show the signals behind the result so you can combine them with independent verification.

URL structure

Checks for risky URL patterns such as shortened links, embedded credentials, unusual domain structure, IP-address URLs, and brand-lookalike patterns.

Message patterns

Checks pasted text for urgency, requests for sensitive information, hard-to-reverse payments, fake account pressure, and similar scam patterns.

Domain age

For links and QR destinations, public RDAP registration data is checked when available. A new domain is treated as one signal, never proof.

How the score is calculated

Each detected warning signal contributes a defined number of points. The points are added together and capped at 100. The result page lists the signals that contributed to the score so the user can see why a result changed instead of receiving a hidden or unexplained verdict.

A high score means the submitted content contains more or stronger patterns associated with common scam tactics. A low score means fewer of those rule-based patterns were detected. Neither result proves intent.

What we check

  • URL protocol and unusual URL structure.
  • Shortened-link domains and very long or complex addresses.
  • Brand names appearing outside recognized official domains.
  • Pressure, threat, prize, investment, payment, and sensitive-information language in text.
  • Public domain-registration age when RDAP data is available.

What we do not check

  • We do not execute or open the destination page as a malware sandbox.
  • We do not claim to query every phishing, malware, regulator, or community blacklist.
  • We do not verify a seller's identity, a company's legal status, or the truth of a message.
  • We do not access your bank, email, delivery, toll, marketplace, or employer records.

How to use the result responsibly

Treat the score as a prompt for verification. For a bank alert, use the bank's official app or trusted phone number. For a delivery message, check the order or carrier account directly. For a seller, verify the business outside its own website. The most important step is independent confirmation through a channel the suspicious message did not provide.

Frequently asked questions

Is the score a probability that something is a scam?

No. It is a rule-based warning-signal score. A score of 80 does not mean there is an 80 percent probability of fraud.

Does a low score mean a website is safe?

No. A new scam can have few obvious signals, and legitimate sites can sometimes trigger warnings. Verify important claims independently.

Do you open suspicious websites during a check?

No. Link analysis focuses on the submitted URL structure and domain-registration information when available rather than executing the destination page.
